July 4th Celebrations, Fireworks in Evanston

Fireworks in Evanston this year will be launched from Clark Street Beach beginning at 9:15 p.m. and will be visible up and down the lakefront, according to Evanston Fourth of July Assocation.

The evening fireworks are a cap to a day's worth of activities put on by the association. From 9 to 11 a.m., residents can join in playground games like piea-eating and three-legged races at , , the , , the  and .

Evanston's parade kicks off at 2 p.m. from Central Street and Central Park Avenue, and will head east toward Ryan Field. Parade regulars include the South Shore Drill Team, the Cavaliers Drum & Bugle Corps, the Jessie White Tumblers and performers from Redmoon Theater, among other groups. A special addition this year is Peter Sagal, host of the NPR news quiz "Wait Wait...Don't Tell Me." down the parade route while filming for a PBS documentary series about the Constitution.

Before the fireworks, the Palatine Concert Band will perform in from 7 to 9 p.m.

Other Fourth of July festivities include a tennis tournament hosted by the Evanston Community Tennis Association from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Ackerman Park.
