The final nine days of July have gone down in the record books as the coldest in Chicago, according to Chicago meteorologist Tom Skilling's Weather Center blog.

July 31 marked the ninth day of below normal temperatures in the Chicago area as temperatures reached a high of 74 degrees, which is a typical high temperature for May, according to the blog.

The final nine days of July averaged eight degrees below normal.
