CommUNITY Picnic Is This Sunday
Evanston’s annual CommUNITY Picnic takes place Sunday, Aug. 25, from noon to 5 p.m. in Ingraham Park, just west of the Civic Center at 2100 Ridge Ave. There will be food, games, giveaways and entertainment, and admission is free. The city is collecting tin cans for a recycled craft project; for drop-off locations, visit the city website.
Citizen Police Academy Starts Aug. 28
There are still spots in Evanston’s fall 2013 Citizen Police Academy. The twelve-week program is designed to give participants an inside look at the Evanston police department, and is held once a week on Wednesdays from 7 to 9:30 p.m. To enroll, call the Problem Solving Unit Commander at 847-866-5011 or email: email@example.com.
Support Extracurriculars at ETHS Boosterpalooza
The Evanston Township High School Boosters will hold a "Boosterpalooza" on Saturday, Sept. 7, from 7 to 10 p.m. on the rooftop of Sherman Plaza, 821 Davis St. Enjoy performances by the ETHS marching band and jazz band, food from local restaurants and a raffle. Tickets are $25 and benefit the ETHS Booster club, which supports music, fine arts, after-school clubs and sports. Visit the Boosters website to purchase tickets.
Sign Up For a Free TreeKeepers Course
The land conservation nonprofit Openlands will be offering a tree-keeping course in Evanston beginning Saturday, Sept. 14. The class will meet on eight Saturdays at the Levy Center from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; topics include tree biology, soils, tree identification and proper tree care. Register in advance online for $120.
