Youth Organizations Umbrella (Y.O.U.) is seeking a talented and experienced candidate for the position of Senior Associate in Grant Accounting and Finance Analytics. Founded 40 years ago, Y.O.U. is a youth development agency that provides services and leadership to meet the emerging needs of young people and their families in the Evanston community. Y.O.U. currently offers a range of year-round services – from afterschool enrichment and mentorship to clinical counseling and crisis intervention – that support more than 600 young people annually.

The Senior Associate will oversee analysis and accounting for Y.O.U.’s portfolio of more than 40 government and private grants. This includes supporting Y.O.U.’s strategic planning by analyzing grant resources and opportunities; collaborating with Y.O.U.’s leadership team to refine program budgets and time allocations; and collecting and reporting on financial data to grant authorities. The Senior Associate will report to the Chief Financial Officer, and will work closely with the Executive Director, Chief Operating Officer, Grants Manager, and members of the program leadership team. The position is part-time (20-25 hours) and Y.O.U. is glad to accommodate talented candidates who require flexible hours and may need to work from home some days.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Support the leadership team and program staff in fiscal management of their grants, including development and analysis of project-specific budgets/costs, submission of budget revisions as approved by CFO or CEO, and interim fiscal reports. 
  • Recommend best practices for allocating and tracking staff hours and for improving the time efficiency of reporting.
  • Administer a bi-monthly staff to grant allocation report; propose corrective action based on these results.
  • Attend fiscal trainings and grant meetings required by funding entities.
  • Prepare billing for grant authorities under CFO supervision.
  • Administer financial compliance of grants per grant requirements and A-133 audit expectations.
  • Maintain GL/ODM/Sage accounts for assigned grants, including monthly reconciliations to Quick Books.
  • Assist in fiscal audit preparation as it relates to the Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Awards and Functional Activities.
  • Maintain grant files (hard copy and electronic) in collaboration with Y.O.U.’s grant manager (who focuses on the program-related narrative and reporting for grants).

Qualifications:

This is an extraordinary opportunity for an individual with the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required, advanced degree and/or CPA preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in financial management and accounting.
  • Experience with audit, legal compliance, and budget development.
  • Proven effectiveness collaborating with others, and empowering them to make decisions.
  • Technologically savvy, with experience using financial software (e.g., QuickBooks).
  • Experience effectively communicating key data, including presentations to senior management.
  • Success seeing beyond the numbers, identifying trends and new possibilities.
  • Highly collaborative, entrepreneurial, and energetic personality.
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to and passion for Y.O.U.’s mission.
