Women's Christian Temperance Union is an organization for women concerned about the destructive powers of alcohol in family and society. It is the oldest women's organization in the world and it was through its efforts that prohibition gained popularity and was made into law in 1919. It is still thriving today, with many members worldwide and a powerful lobby group.

The national headquarters is located in Evanston's Frances Willard House and includes Frances Willard Memorial Library and Archives. The house is open for guided tours on the first and third Sundays of each month.

Interestingly, it was by the union's influence that there are no bowling alleys in Evanston, a sport that was thought to be associated with alcohol.
