North Shore 5th Graders Shatter World Record for Twins

Students at Highcrest Middle School in Wilmette have broken the Guinness World Record for Most Twins in a Single Grade.

Highcrest Middle School is seeing double. The Wilmette school announced this week that it had broken the Guiness World Record for Most Twins in a Single Grade, with 23 sets of twins. Approximately 10 percent of the 5th grade class can claim the record as a twin. The previous record was 16 sets of twins. Luke and Ryan Novosel, dedicated readers of the Guinness Book, discovered that they could break the record when reading the book one night. "The boys were reading one Sunday night and started discussing the many sets of twins right in our neighborhood," Mike Novosel, Luke and Ryan's dad, said. "My wife and I figured by the time they arrived at New Trier in a few years they could break the record.  There were shrieks of excitement when Luke …

Regional Police Report: Teen Charged in Shooting Near Mall; Fatal Motorcycle Crash

The following police-related items appeared on area Patches this week. When an arrest is mentioned it should not be considered a conviction.

Skokie Teen Charged in Shooting Near Old Orchard Mall Criminal charges have been filed against Rayshawn Taylor, 17 , of the 1900 block of Jackson Avenue in Evanston, in connection with a shooting that took place outside Old Orchard Mall near the intersection of Golf Road and Skokie Boulevard. Taylor is  charged with one count of aggravated discharge of a firearm and one count of unlawful use of a weapon. Taylor shot a juvenile with a semiautomatic pistol on May 17 around 9:45 p.m., police said. When officers arrived at the scene, they observed a male subject lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to his abdomen. He is currently in stable condition. "This was not a random act," Skokie Deputy Chief Mike Pechter told Patch. Taylor's bond …

The following information was reported by the Evanston Police Department on Friday, May 24, 2013. Where arrests are included, it does not indicate a conviction.

The following arrests and incidents were reported by the Evanston Police Department: Men Steal Purse, Phone in Strongarm Robbery Two men demanded their victim’s wallet and cell phone, then took a coin purse and its contents, a dark blue Samsung flip phone cell phone, two Chase bank credit cards and an Illinois driver’s license at Garrett Place and Orrington Avenue between 1:50 and 2 a.m. Friday, May 24, police reported.  Gunfire Reported at Davis and Florence Police investigated a report that a man fired a gun at Davis Street and Florence Avenue around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 22. 'Sexting' Allegations Cost Baseball Team Playoff Run on Home Turf

School officials pulled Evanston Township High School's baseball team from the regional playoffs at ETHs, amid allegations members of the team were sending indecent photos of high school girls via text message.

On the eve of regional playoffs at Evanston Township High School, the athletic director told parents in a letter that the baseball team would forfeit the season, following allegations that players were sending indecent photographs via text message. The Wildkits were set to play Taft High School in the first round of regional playoffs Friday at ETHS, but the season is now over for good. Taft will instead play St. Pat's in the championship game Saturday, May 25, at ETHS, which is hosting the playoffs. Athletics director Chris Livatino and communications staff at ETHS have not yet returned voicemails and emails from Patch. Evanston Police Cmdr.
