I don't like debit cards either, it is a direct line to one's bank account. What I didn't like wasRead More my bank replacing my ATM card with a dual usage ATM/debit card without asking me...I made them cancel it and give me an ATM functionality card only. Some people don't have credit line established yet (like my college student son) and have no choice but to use a debit card instead of credit card. I take precautions and have it assigned to an isolated checking account, and urge son to monitor it closely (set up email alerts), good training for future financial independence.
Melissa Pinto April 20, 2014 at 08:46 pm
I never use my debit card I'm any store . Cash majority of the time and credit cards and I disagreeRead More no nobody deserves this to happen to them.

Books, antiques, and bright people all under one roof. What could be better? Glad to see aRead More non-franchise, non-chain new business here in Evanston. Sounds like it is going to be a great place.
Lisa S. April 18, 2014 at 09:16 am
Wonderful! I'll be there to check it out.

When taxes are imposed on various industries then to stay in business the prices increase on theRead More consumer! Obamacare , gas taxes, payroll taxes, tolls, the proposed soda and candy tax , your tobacco tax is 75% of what the product really costs! Commercial Property tax increases! Do you people see what's going on here? This country is being destroyed by the Democrats! It is starting to resemble The a Soviet Union! We should change the name of this country to the USSA!

And all this time i thought it was Pork Barrel spending.
JBrad April 19, 2014 at 01:57 pm
Mark, Your words are absolutely disgusting. Please do not use this comment thread as a vehicle toRead More spew your racist mentality. And for your information, food-borne illnesses come from agriculture, period. All around the world, including in the U.S. Lastly, your hatred for people of colour does not mean that you understand disease, at all. Good luck in life.

OK...Mildred....you got a smile out of me.....I am trying to picture the blue haired ladies from theRead More Evanston Women's Club picketing the new Hooters...an outstanding idea.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT. The city also needs to change the parking rates in the garages. First HourRead More free second hour $1.00. This will help garage usage and leave parking on streets open.

How about including Found in your list!
Lonson Williams April 13, 2014 at 07:35 pm
Richard, Do you know how to read? This post is reporting on a Time Out article. The article doesn'tRead More mention Found. If you have a problem with the list, you might be better served talking to Time Out instead of Patch.

Anyone but Phillips Chevrolet. I got screwed at Phillips. I picked-out a truck, put down a $200 cashRead More deposit and came back the next day to find they sold my truck to someone else. Cheeseballs.
Interested resident April 2, 2014 at 09:01 am
That is a shame Lenny Kravitz. I'm sorry to hear that. The patch says Fallon will buy the truckRead More for the rep (in quotes). My understanding is that he is going to buy a truck from the rep. He said last Friday night that he didn't want to make it that easy for the sale.
william savick April 2, 2014 at 03:35 pm
Question Lenny Kravitz; Did you get your $200. back?

NP 4x6 seems a little small. Thought the one the City has in local park was a little bigger thenRead More that.
Jordan S. Zoot March 27, 2014 at 02:43 pm
The 4"x6" size is what is mandated by the FCCL statute. Sara's reference is correct.
jim March 27, 2014 at 03:33 pm
Thanks Jordan. Assumed it was
Jordan S. Zoot March 24, 2014 at 06:54 am
That's a big maybe given the specific location. If you draw....let's say a 1.5 mile radius aroundRead More the Green Bay location, particularly the semi-circle facing north of the store that is a pretty good radius for that location to draw from.
Stan Wojciechowski March 24, 2014 at 11:53 am
I've been to Mariano's in Northfield and loved it. I'm still disappointed that the Green Bay RoadRead More Dominick's is going to be Whole Food$. I don't need snooty wine and cheese bars or off the edge brands I've never heard of, and I especially don't need outrageous prices. I'm excited about the Golf and Waukegan Mariano's. That's an easy drive from Evanston and I'll be going there often. Otherwise, I'll head for Jewel in Wilmette.
E. March 24, 2014 at 12:59 pm
Jewel in Skokie (on Skokie Blvd/Gross Pt, just S of Golf) is bigger & seems better stocked thanRead More the Wilmette one. Also there's a large Produce World just across the street, w/great prices on fruits & vegetables & some other nice offerings. Totally agree that WF is too expensive. They might survive on business from nearby communities, but Evanston residents won't reap much benefit from having a third one. One more move that drives my food dollars out of Evanston.
Ken March 21, 2014 at 09:58 am
Why not move to Texas already Jordan? There must not be any bad areas there since there are moreRead More guns in Texas than people. I am sure you and all the other gun nuts can fantasize about saving the day by shooting some "bad" people.
Jordan S. Zoot March 21, 2014 at 10:10 am
Ken...my intention was clear NOT to continue a gun related discussion. You have nothing to worryRead More about the self defense is all about SELF...I don't have any intention of using a firearm to undertake anything than protecting myself. If the local community would actually do the right thing and assist there might be fewer "bad" areas. If Quinn gets reelected moving to Texas might be a real possibility. The glaring flaw in your logic is I would bet there are proportionately just as may firearms in Illinois as there are in Texas...or are you only counting the legally owned ones?
E. March 21, 2014 at 11:55 am
Sigh. Here we go again.

Vicky Kujawa March 19, 2014 at 10:02 pm
If someone was allergic to nuts they would not be able to be on this board lol!
Diana Flores March 21, 2014 at 01:16 pm
wow I can't believe that only one piece of candy had a peanut out of the 24 candies in the box!
Michael Hunt March 19, 2014 at 10:44 am
The guy who 'needs to exercise greater control over content' and who carries a gun everywhere alsoRead More has problems with civil discourse. No surprise.
E. March 19, 2014 at 11:05 am
It would be refreshing to read a comment thread on Patch that doesn't get hijacked into a debateRead More about guns. It has really gotten out of hand.
Jordan S. Zoot March 19, 2014 at 12:19 pm
While we are at it...SURPRISE.....a couple more armed robberies in Evanston last weekend that PatchRead More didn't even report http://evanston.suntimes.com/crime/robberies-EVA-03202014:article

Jordan S. Zoot March 13, 2014 at 10:53 am
Mildred.....in this case it happens to be a very good use of tax dollars....or would you prefer theRead More old Howard St. full of drug addicts, thugs and whores. If you want to talk about questionable use of tax dollars how bout the $625K that went into the Waffle and Chicken place.

glad to hear it - that Dominicks was a cornerstone of the neighborhood. I am sure Jewel will do aRead More great job in that space. Jewel, don't forget the organic produce!
Stan Wojciechowski March 7, 2014 at 12:47 pm
I wish we were getting something other than Whole Foods on Green Bay Road. Unless you enjoyRead More overpriced merchandise, the business is going to go to Jewel in Wilmette. I visited the Mariano's in Northfield. Why didn't they buy the Green Bay location? That would have been wonderful. It's worth it for me to drive to Northfield to shop.
jim March 7, 2014 at 01:58 pm
Perhaps Marianos got out bid. Perhaps they felt it wouldn't be a good location for them. You canRead More shop Marianos and Meiji in Skokie in a few years

Haha. I prefer this thread. Very nice.

Highly recommend Lao Sze Chuan! The food is outstanding! Portions are very generous! The service isRead More attentive! This restaurant greatly enhances Evanston's landscape on the North Shore...definitely a Destination restaurant. Parking by the Library is convent!
Jim Puricelli March 4, 2014 at 10:10 am
It's a shame that the building has been vacant for so long in the first place and that the deal withRead More the produce market that was slated to open here about 5 years ago fell through. At this point anything is better than nothing and as long as it's not a Walmart, I'll definitely help support this business.
