Ignorance doesn't just occur out in the streets , it also occurs from one's tongue. All misdemeanors? You would think there was a felony there somewhere. And what news agency postedRead More this news sooner? Whether breaking of recent it is still nice to know.
Emily Stone July 21, 2014 at 08:00 am
Thanks for the question, Sandy. We post news as soon as we get the information. Sometimes that'sRead More immediately after the fact; other times there's a delay. I posted this as soon as we had the information from EPD. (And no later than any other news source in Evanston.) I decide whether to put something out as breaking news based on whether it's something I think readers want to know right away. In this case, I made the decision that it was important enough to blast out. We have discussed the idea of switching the name to "news alert" for exactly the reason you mention. That may happen in the future.

Stop the revolving door of justice(nonjustice!)!! Once they are involved in a crime involving a gun,Read More they should be sentenced to Hard Labor.. That's right, just like the Old Days!! No more of this crap where they lay around and get free room and board! Put them out in chain gangs and let them work! Screw the bleeding hearts who want to be nice to felons! Most of these people are hardened criminals..once again, if you do the crime, you do the time..But, now make it Hard Time that may sway them to straighten up!!

Yes, what are these kids doing? They have resources here and a community that wants the best forRead More them. It's not like it's Englewood where there are few signs of hope, no positive role models, etcetera. If they want that life, maybe they should move there. But, the biggest problem that has changed everything is the incredibly easy availability of guns. Guns are FLOODING to Chicago via Indiana that have very loose gun laws -- loopholes galore. Sure, before the loosening of gun laws, true criminals or serious gang bangers would and could get their hands on a gun but now any kid can and does. The consequences of a disagreement or a diss is not just a fight but a gun fight. We have to push back and fight the NRA and gun mania !

In the 1920's, with the economy not better than it is now, firearms could be bought over the counterRead More without FOIDs. Yet the killings, muggings, burglaries, etc. were a fraction of what they are today. See this article by University of Chicago professor Lipson showing that something else has changed, and that the problem is not the guns, but something else: http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2014-07-10/opinion/ct-violence-chicago-gangsters-july-4th-weekend-lip-20140715_1_bugs-moran-submachine-gun-chicago-tribune Obviously the problem is not the easy availability of firearms, which were easier to get in America in years past.

It must be so difficult for him to just sit there and not type. All he can do is try to get everyRead More post he finds unpleasant flagged and removed. It must be driving him even crazier. I bet the garbage bags are up on the windows and the empty alcohol bottles are strewn about. The worst part is he doesn't have trusty weapons to polish. He must be sitting there fearing for his safety every moment of the day. Just knowing all those "thugs" are out there. Sleep tight buddy, you will be safe behind bars soon. I wonder what all the other felons will be like? I'm sure you will make friends. The irony being you wanted all those people there, now you get to live with them. A whole lot closer than you would have ever been if you just hadn't bought a gun in the first place. You see this is what everyone here was trying to tell you, guns cause way more problems than they solve. And the people who buy them end up worse off then before they had them. Just imagine if you had taken a moment to consider what these people were trying to say, instead of insulting and belittling them, you wouldn't be on the road to being a convicted felon.
Jimmy James July 14, 2014 at 04:12 pm
For those people who can't find their replies, try looking at the original comment. 250+ commentsRead More this is obviously not your normal comment section. Usually a comment or reply is right there, but with pages and pages of comments, you may need to click the "show me earlier comments" link in blue letters, and you may need to do it many times. Only comments where the author typed into the box at the bottom and clicked "Post comment" will show up at the bottom of the comment action. If the author clicked "Reply" to a specific comment, it will be right under that comment. With that said, I still wouldn't past our favorite troll to flag a lot of comments, but your reply may just be hidden up there somewhere.

The police arrest them and the Democratic judges let them out, on parole, or send them to YouthRead More Camps. And then they go back to the street and continue to traffic in drugs, mug, rob, vandalize, write graffiti, kill, give drugs to young women to hook them to drugs and then prostitute them, etc. etc. The same story all the time and the citizens do nothing about this, buying the bromides and the misdirection from the Democratic politicians about oh my god all those guns out there, oh let us register guns, let us forbid semiautomatic rifles, etc. etc. Sad. It is a gang problem but also a judiciary and political problem.

Zoot, I must correct your calculation regarding the number of illegal guns EPD has confiscatedRead More within the last four days from "prohibited persons." Including the five that were removed from your home during a raid by the combined efforts of the EPD, ATF, and CC Sheriffs, the correct total would be NINE. Such a great job of weapon confiscation with the use of "aggressive enforcement" by our local, state, and federal policing agencies. Wouldn't you agree ?
