BIOGRAPHY Julia Smucker Baccash, age 64 of Chicago, died on March 30, 2013 surrounded by her husband and three children. Julie was born in Champaign, IL, grew up in Evanston, IL and Goshen, IN and spent the majority of her adult life in Evanston, IL. She attended Goshen College and Northwestern University, where she received an MAT. Julie loved and cared for her family, including her husband of 39 years. With an easy, beautiful laugh, a spirit for adventure, and a generous heart, she lived a full life. Arsen Demirdjian died at age 80 on March 26. He was co-owner of Sayat Nova, an Armenian restaurant in downtown Chicago. Demirdjian and his brother, Levon, first opened the restaurant in Rogers Park in 1965.

Arlene R. Haney nee Rassenfoss, age 82, of Evanston, formerly of Wilmette, died on March 22, 2013 after suffering a stroke 2 ½ years ago. Born September 30, 1930, she was the daughter of Albert and Philomena Rassenfoss. She was the sister of Joan Finch and was preceded in death by her parents Albert and Philomena Rassenfoss and sisters Sr. Carol Rassenfoss, SP, and Mary Ann Liska. Arlene met William V. Haney while a student at Northwestern University. Both were involved in the Sheil Chapel Catholic student ministry. Arlene married Bill on June 14, 1952. Wilmette native Elissa Froman died at age 29 of Hodgkin's lymphoma. Friends and coworkers remember her dedication to social justice and her unusual ability to build community in the personal and political spheres.
Although she didn’t have a rabbinical degree, friends and co-workers who knew Elissa Froman say that her precocious ability to build community and her dedication to social justice made her, in many ways, already a rabbi. Froman, who grew up in Wilmette, died of lymphoma at age 29 on Friday, March 22. She spent her short career advocating for social change as a legislative associate with the National Council of Jewish Women and the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism in Washington, D.C. As her next move, she had hoped to bring her commitment to social justice to the pulpit. William Wimmer Jr., an art teacher at Evanston Township High School and Harper College in Palatine for 24 years, passed away on Jan. 28 at the age of 80.
William Wimmer Jr., who taught art at Evanston Township High School and Harper College in Palatine for 24 years, passed away of bile duct cancer on Jan. 28 at the age of 80, Chicago Tribune reported. During his life, Wimmer worked to revive printmaking at both schools. Chicago author and artist Audrey Niffenegger, who wrote the Time Traveler's Wife, told the Tribune that Wimmer spent three years tutoring her in printmaking because he loved the medium so much and wanted to pass it on to someone who would love it. Services were held at Faith Lutheran Church in Arlington Heights, according to Tributes.com.
