Boocoo 1823 Church St, Evanston, IL60201 Boocoo is a cultural center with a mission to cultivate creativity within the Evanston community. Giant, colorful…More murals of musicians and artists adorn the exterior walls leading to the community garden in the rear of the building. All produce from the organic garden is used in the Boocoo cafe and is also sold across the street at the West End Market on Saturday mornings. Boocoo provides the opportunity for continual development in education, visual arts, gardening and music. A recording studio is available to music students. Boocoo hopes to provide scholarships to its artists someday and welcomes donations from the community.
Located on the west end of Northwestern's campus, the Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary is a graduate school…More with a Methodist and Evangelical tradition. Students who go on to do graduate work here are drawn by the values that the seminary holds most dear, such as its refusal to separate itself from secular society at large and its strongly held belief that evangelism has a place in it. Former students say that the balanced, academic approach is attractive as well. The school makes a special effort to value critical analysis alongside religious study.
Since its founding in 1853, the fortunes of the seminary have been intertwined with the universities, as both were founded by the same religious group.
Keep an eye out for the Cokesbury Bookstore, a Christian book retailer, on the grounds of the seminary.
