Located on the west end of Northwestern's campus, the Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary is a graduate school…More with a Methodist and Evangelical tradition. Students who go on to do graduate work here are drawn by the values that the seminary holds most dear, such as its refusal to separate itself from secular society at large and its strongly held belief that evangelism has a place in it. Former students say that the balanced, academic approach is attractive as well. The school makes a special effort to value critical analysis alongside religious study.
Since its founding in 1853, the fortunes of the seminary have been intertwined with the universities, as both were founded by the same religious group.
Keep an eye out for the Cokesbury Bookstore, a Christian book retailer, on the grounds of the seminary.
