Blotter: Cocker Spaniel Stolen, Cell Phone Nabbed From Napper

Battery on Church Street Two known offenders allegedly battered their victim at 10:20 p.m. Friday, July 20, in the 1800 block of Church Street, according to police.  Cocker Spaniel Reported Stolen A man stole a black and tan Cocker Spaniel from a home in the 1400 block of Pitner Avenue between 1 p.m. Saturday, July 14, and 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 23, according to police.  Residential Burglaries on Fowler, Garnett Someone pried open the garage of a home in the 1600 block of Fowler Street between 10 and 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 25, according to police. Man Charged with Arson in Connection with Skokie Explosion

The Evanston Fire Department helped to put out the fire during the December explosion.

A blast that blew off the entire front portion of an apartment building last December was initially thought to be the cause of a gas leak. Yet an investigation realeased by the Skokie Fire Department earlier this month revealed that the blast was in fact arson and not a gas leak.  Now, the Skokie Police Department has charged Stefan Kogut, 53, of the 100 block of West Ridge Ave., with two counts of arson on Monday. It is alleged that Kogut intentionally set off the explosion that left the apartment building at 8734 Kimball Ave. faceless. Kogut was the only person injured after the blast and was found near the building's rubble. He would later be transported to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston.
