VIDEO: Watch the Grove St. Viaduct Roll In

See how crews installed one of three new 4,000-pound viaducts for the Purple Line in Evanston.

Rob Mahoney staked out at Bar Louie this weekend to watch as CTA crews installed a new viaduct on the Purple Line at Grove Street. He used a Panasonic LX5 to shoot the action as workers rolled the 400,000-pound structure into place. The work is part of $10.3 million in upgrades to the Purple Line in Evanston, including replacements of two other viaducts at Greenleaf and Dempster streets. Other work involves rehabilitation and replacement of the retaining walls, as well as construction of new sidewalks, landscaping and drainage systems.
