A Stolen Moment in Evanston

Patch columnist Christine Wolf seeks a silver lining in the theft of her son's iPod Touch.

Last week, my nine-year-old son and his three friends played catch after school in the vacant lot behind our house, passing the time until their ride to hip hop class arrived. Regional Crime Report: Explosion Injures 3, Boy Rescued from River and More

The following police items were taken from area Patch sites. When a charge is referenced it does not indicate a conviction.

Cary Three Injured in Blaze at Industrial Building in Cary Three workers were injured in an explosion and fire at Fox Valley Systems in Cary on Wednesday. Nearby buildings had to be evacuated due to the paint and chemicals contained in the building, officials said. Two people injured in the explosion have been transferred to the burn unit at Loyola Hospital and the third victim was sent to the St. Anthony Hospital Burn Unit in Rockford, according to Cary Fire Lt. Andy Veath.  Investigators from the Cary Fire Protection District, Occupational Safety and Health Administration and Illinois State Fire Marshals are still investigating what caused the two explosions and the subsequent fire. The offender is described as a black male, who is 6 feet tall and weighs 195 pounds.  Police found graffiti at a park in the 100 block of Ashland Ave. at 4:30 p.m. July 30.  The offender(s) is unknown at this time.  Damage to a bedroom wall was reported to police at a single-family residence in the 1900 block of Emerson St. at 8:19 a.m. July 30.  The offender is described as black male. Robbery A man attacked someone and stole an Apple iPhone 4 on a house porch on the 2000 block of Ridge Avenue at 1:05 a.m. on Sunday. The suspect is a black man about 5-foot-10 and 150 pounds. Assault & Battery A man allegedly assaulted a police officer at 1:21 a.m. on Saturday at a house on the 700 block of Central Street. Michael P. Coutre, 43, of Evanston was arrested and charged with aggravated assault. His court date is set for Dec. 21. A man hit someone in the head on the 1700 block of Grey Avenue at 10:05 p.m. on Friday.
