Meet Angie: From Adorable To Zaftig

Patch regularly features pets available for adoption from C.A.R.E. at Evanston's Animal Shelter.

Angie, a tortie/calico mix with turquoise-green eyes, came to C.A.R.E. about a year ago after she didn't get along with the other resident cat. But Angie loves people. If you sit down, Angie will make a beeline for your lap and some cuddles.  Angie shines when it comes to supervising. She's in her element when hanging out in the C.A.R.E. office, leading us to surmise that she aspires to be a secretary cat, or better yet, an office manager cat. And we know that Angie will excel at whatever career path she embarks on. As office manager, Angie expects a little respect. She can be quite opinionated and talkative, as C.A.R.E. volunteers have noted. If you do something that she doesn't appreciate (like rubbing her sensitive tummy), she'll let …

Meet Charcoal--a.k.a. 'Chatty Mister Charming'

Patch regularly features pets available for adoption from C.A.R.E. at Evanston's Animal Shelter.

For some reason, shelter cats who are black have a harder time finding homes than cats of other colors. Hopefully that won't be an issue for this handsome fellow. C.A.R.E. cat Charcoal, whose coat is a deep glossy black, says, "I'm a fun kitty, talkative and responsive to everything you say. I also have a cute trick I can do where I roll over and look adorable. Oh, and I've been known to admire myself in the mirror. Why not, I'm so cute! I love to pounce on feather wand toys when I'm not cuddling up next to you. I can't wait to start my next adventure in life...will it be at your house?" Charcoal's Stats: C.A.R.E. to Meet Charcoal? Please come to C.A.R.E., 2310 Oakton St., Evanston, to meet Charcoal and speak to an adoption counselor. …

Meet Honey: Hopeful (But A Little Shy)

Patch regularly features pets available for adoption from C.A.R.E. at Evanston's Animal Shelter.

Honey is an older, long-haired black beauty of a girl who arrived at C.A.R.E. when her person lost her home. Honey says, "I am beautiful, demure and sweet. I love being brushed and feel so good when I'm getting quiet cuddles and affection. I've had a hard time adjusting to the noisy shelter and have been very scared and withdrawn. I am just starting to come out of my shell. I ended up here after my owner lost her home, so I was used to a nice quiet place where I lived with one woman for 12 years. I'm looking forward to meeting you. I know you'll want to take me home to your quiet, comfy place." Honey's Stats:  C.A.R.E. to Meet Honey? Meet Regis: Ready And Waiting For You

Patch regularly features pets available for adoption from C.A.R.E. at Evanston's Animal Shelter.

C.A.R.E. dog Regis arrived back at the shelter when his beloved owners had to move to a smaller place and could not take him along. Regis is an easy-going guy who enjoys walks and hanging out with people. Friendly and not overly demanding, he’d be happy with basic care and attention, a comfy bed and some toys. (Oh—a towel under his water bowl would be good idea since he's a bit of a messy drinker!) Regis is a big fellow and can be strong on leash at times but he does already know some basic obedience commands such as Sit, Down and Give Paw. Regis says: "Once I’m home (with you!) and I understand your routine, I’m sure our relationship will be one of respect and mutual admiration." Regis' Stats: C.A.R.E. to Meet Regis? Please come to C.A.R.…

Patch regularly features pets available for adoption from C.A.R.E. at Evanston's Animal Shelter.

Cubby's a homerun of a cat. He says, "I'm a real sweetie pie and all the C.A.R.E. volunteers love me. I'll roll over on my back when you pick me up and when you give me a hug. I purr and purr all day long, but also love to play. My favorite toy is the cat charmer snake and I'll hunt and pounce! Please come meet to see how adorable and sweet I am." Meet Jett, A Jewel of a Cat

Evanston Patch regularly features pets available for adoption from C.A.R.E. at Evanston's Animal Shelter.

Jett was very scared when he came to the shelter many months ago. He's gradually come out of his shell and blossomed with the love from C.A.R.E. volunteers. A gorgeous, personable long-haired gray cat, Jett can be very talkative. He likes attention, too, as well as fuzzy mice and cat charmers. "What I really love is being petted and cuddle time," Jett says. "Oh, and I love the compliments that I get for my fantastic long, white whiskers." Jett's Stats: C.A.R.E. to Meet Jett? Adorable Andrew, A Sociable Fellow

Evanston Patch regularly features pets available for adoption from C.A.R.E. at Evanston's Animal Shelter.

Hi! My name's Andrew! I'm a sweet little guy and everyone who meets me falls in love. I adore every other kitten that I’ve met and want to live where I can have a feline friend. I was originally a shy little guy who was found by a volunteer. She rescued me and brought me to the shelter where I have been loved and cuddled and pampered. I have a black silky coat and white whiskers and a few white chest hairs. Please come meet me at C.A.R.E. Andrew's Stats: C.A.R.E. to Meet Andrew? Meet Ragamuffin: A Rags To (Hopefully) Riches Story

Evanston Patch regularly features pets available for adoption from C.A.R.E. at Evanston's Animal Shelter.

C.A.R.E. kitten Ragamuffin had a rough start to life. He was rescued from the street as a tiny kitten, near death and covered in fleas. Happily, mega-amounts of love and medical care from C.A.R.E. volunteers helped Ragamuffin rebound to full vigor. Now Ragamuffin is rarin' to go and ready to meet his new forever family.  Here's how Ragamuffin would describe himself: "Hi! I'm super cute and love, love, love to play. I have a cute pink nose with a beauty spot and pink ear tips. My favorite game is "sneaky cat" where I'll sneak up you or a toy and then pounce. I can get pretty silly. I also love cardboard and will chew and rip it up, so you'll want to have some boxes around for me to play in. When I came into the shelter I was neglected and …

A Princess Among Cats

Each week we feature pets available for adoption from C.A.R.E. at Evanston's Animal Shelter.

C.A.R.E. has been graced with Royalty in the form of Elegant Calico Cat Princess. Active and energetic, Princess will entertain you with her high-flying antics. She loves to play with toys and volunteers have noted that she will occasionally pick them up and carry them around. Clearly Princess would love to teach you to play 'fetch' with her. When Princess tires of cuddles and wants to play some more, she might let you know by lightly nipping at you. Communication is key, Princess says. This lovely cat is graced with some of the most beautiful markings--some may even say she's like an orange-spotted leopard. Princess' Stats: C.A.R.E. to Meet Princess? Please come to C.A.R.E., 2310 Oakton St., Evanston, to meet Princess and speak to an …
