PHOTOS: Evanston-Based Women's Football Team Falls to San Diego in Championships

The Chicago Force, a women's football team that practices in Evanston, lost to the San Diego Surge 40-36 Saturday in the Women's Football Alliance championship in Pittsburgh.

Holly Peterson ran the opening kickoff back 82 yards for a touchdown, and her San Diego Surge semipro women’s football team intercepted a pass with 18 seconds left to beat the Chicago Force 40-36 Saturday in Pittsburgh—and claiming the equivalent of the Women’s Super Bowl. According to ESPN.com, more than 2,000 fans turned out for the Women's Football Alliance championship at Heinz Field—the first women’s title game to be held in an NFL stadium. “We were in a heavyweight fight,” Force coach John Konecki was quoted as saying. “A 16-round fight that went to decision and the Surge beat us.” The Chicago Force trains at Evanston Township High School for much of their season. Women's Football Team with Evanston Link Heads to Championships

The Chicago Force, a semi-pro women's full tackle football team, which holds regular practices and games in Evanston, will go up against the San Diego Surge Aug. 4 at the Pittsburgh Steelers' stadium.

A Chicago-based, semi-professional women's full-tackle football team you may not know of yet, is heading to its league's national championships at the Pittsburgh Steelers' stadium this weekend.  The Chicago Force, which holds regular practices at Evanston Township High School, will face the San Diego Surge, which beat the Dallas Diamonds for one of two final top spots in the Women's Football Alliance League.  The Force beat out last year's champion, the Boston Militia, 35-34 on July 21 in its final home game at ETHS, according to the Chicago Force website. The team is made up of women ages 20 to 40, according to their website, who hold jobs in real estate, medicine, and blue and white collar positions as well many other professions and …
