The Best Advice You Got From Dad

In honor of Father's Day, we asked Patch readers for the best advice they've gotten from their father or a father-figure. Here's what you had to say.

Happy Father's Day, Patch readers! To mark the day, we asked you earlier this week to share the best advice you received from your dads. What's the Best Advice You've Gotten From Dad?

Dads tend to like dispensing wisdom. What's the best bit of advice your father shared?

Did your dad show you how to correctly throw a football or teach you to make a killer soufflé? (My dad actually does make the soufflés in our family.) Or did he give you great advice on your wedding day or after your first child was born? Share the best morsels you’ve collected from dad over the years in the comment section below. We’ll compile the answers into a story for Father’s Day on Sunday. And there’s no need to limit this to dads with a capital D. If there was a father figure who gave you great advice — a coach, teacher, step-dad, etc. — let us know.

My step-father caught me smoking outdoors and instead of giving me grief and a long speech, he said..." a lady should never smoke in public."
