If you insist on driving after a few drinks, here's what you should know about how alcohol affects your system
Do you know how many drinks you can have before you're in danger of getting a drunken driving violation? As we head into the holiday season, Patch wants to help you determine when enough is enough. When police pull drivers over for suspected drunken driving, officers ask them to perform field sobriety tests and to take a breath test to measure Blood Alcohol Content. A BAC test measures the percentage of alcohol present in a person's bloodstream. Illinois's legal limit is 0.08. According to the Virginia Tech Alcohol Abuse Prevention website, every 40 minutes, 0.01 percent of alcohol leaves your system. During a Thanksgiving crackdown on unsafe drivers, Evanston police charged two people with driving under the influence and cited 20 people for talking on a cell phone while driving, among other charges. From Nov. 12 through 25, police partnered with the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) for an enforcement initiative targeting impaired drivers or motorists without seatbelts, according to a press release from the Evanston Police Department. The initiative is part of IDOT's "Click It Or Ticket" and "Drive Sober Or Get Pulled Over" campaigns. Almost a holiday unto itself with a name of its own, Black Wednesday is a night to rival New Year's Eve and St. Patrick's Day for overindulgence in alcohol. In many communities, extra officers will be on patrol and local officials warn bar owners not to overserve their patrons. The best way to avoid a dui, is to: not drink and drive. Its easy to take a cab, drink non-alcoholic beverages, or have a designated driver. Looking at the chart, I could have 2 beers in 90 min and "probably" be ok to drive. But? why take that chance and chances are....I could be over the limit. The consequences of drinking and driving are not worth it to me.   more ›
