Mayor Urges Support of Assault Weapons Ban

Evanston Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl issued a press release today outlining her support of a proposed assault weapons ban and calling for residents to join her.

Evanston Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl issued a press release Thursday calling for residents to support a nationwide assault weapons ban.  Tisdahl said she “wholeheartedly” supported the proposed Assault Weapons Ban of 2013, a bill that U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein introduced in Congress Thursday. If passed, the bill would stop the sale, transfer, importation and manufacture of military-style assault weapons.  “We have too many guns in our communities and we must work together to get them off the streets,” Tisdahl wrote in the press release. “As a mayor, I am bestowed with the duty to keep my community safe and these common sense solutions will help go a long way in fulfilling that solemn responsibility.” In her press release, Tisdahl urged …

Gabel Re-Elected, Defeats Lieberman in 18th State House District

Incumbent Robyn Gabel will serve a second term.

FINAL UPDATE AT 11:10 p.m.: With 82 of 84 precincts reporting and Robyn Gabel still holding a sizable lead, Eric Lieberman has conceded the race. Gabel could not be reached for comment at the time of publication, as she left her own Evanston-based election party to join President Barack Obama's supporters at McCormick Place in Chicago. Gabel's campaign manager, Josh Kilroy, said that Gabel and the campaign staff had worked hard to connect with the district's new voters. “We worked very hard to reach out to all the voters," Kilroy said, "about 30 to 35 percent of whom were new to the district. Legislative Hopefuls Talk Jobs, Taxes, Corruption at Evanston Forum

At a forum in Evanston last night, Illinois legislative candidates sparred over how to create jobs and reduce corruption, but agreed on one thing: that the state needs a massive budget overhaul.  Hosted by the Central Street Neighbors Association at Haven Middle School, the forum included State Rep.
