Blotter: Struck for an iPod; Mart Cart Scooter Theft

Strong-arm Robbery Three men stole an Apple iPod and an undisclosed amount of cash from another person after striking the victim in the chest in the 1900 block of Simpson Street at approximately 4:15 p.m. on Friday, July 6, police reported. Police: 87-year-old Man Carjacked in Jewel Parking Lot

Three men reportedly physically removed the victim from his vehicle.

Evanston police said they are investigating a carjacking that took place early Saturday in the Jewel Foods parking lot, 2485 Howard St. An 87-year-old man told police that he had fallen asleep in his vehicle when a teenage male knocked on his window and ordered him to get out, according to a police press release. Police said that when the victim would not comply, two more men appeared and removed the victim from his vehicle. All three suspects then got in the car and drove off. According to police, the victim was not injured and the vehicle was later recovered by the Illinois State Police after it had been abandoned with minor damage near the intersection of I-94 and I-55. Police: Minnesota Man Arrested for Dealing Drugs

Police reported the man was in possession of marijuana, cocaine and over $1,000.

A 34-year-old Minnesota man was charged with four drug-related felonies and other miscellaneous charges after Evanston police said they found him with marijuana and cocaine. Responding to a 911 call, police said they arrested Ronald E. Louden, of Newhope, Minnesota, after they found him with 27.2 grams of marijuana, 3.8 grams of cocaine and $1,351 in cash in a car near the south end of Mason Park, located near the intersection of Florence Avenue and Church Street. Evanston police were assisted by the Skokie Police Department’s Canine Unit in their search of the vehicle. CTA Security Camera Catches Robbery Suspects

Police have asked the public to help identify the males in the picture.

Evanston police are looking for help in identifying two males who they say may have robbed a woman of her cell phone on the South Boulevard CTA station platform Tuesday afternoon. According to a CTA security bulletin, the female was standing on the platform at around 2:30 p.m. when she was approached by two males, one wearing a red shirt and one a white shirt, who took her cell phone by force. A CTA security camera at the station captured a photo of these two males on the platform near the time of the robbery. Jury: EPD Officers Believed Knife-Wielding Man a Danger When They Shot Him

A jury's ruling vindicates three Evanston police officers in the 2009 shooting death on Church Street. The had earlier been cleared of wrongdoing in an Illinois State Police investigation.

A jury sided with three Evanston police officers by unanimously agreeing that the officers believed themselves to be in grave danger when they shot and killed a knife-wielding man in 2009, according to the Evanston Review. The ruling, from last month, means the city will pay significantly less in damages than the plaintiff in the lawsuit was seeking. The officers shot and killed Desrick York, 35, in the 1800 block of Church Street. The mother of two of York’s children had filed the lawsuit against the city. An earlier lawsuit filed by York’s widow was dismissed, according to TribLocal. Man Robs Woman to Pay Cell Phone Bill

The man admitted to the robbery, which occurred less than a block from an Evanston Police Department outpost, and was also caught on a surveillance camera, police said.

A 24-year-old Chicago man was charged with felony robbery after police said he snatched cash and lottery tickets out of the hands of a 65-year-old woman on Tuesday. Police said Jason O. Pinnock, 24, admitted to robbing the woman because he needed money to pay his cell phone bill. Evanston detectives responded to a robbery report at 5:50 p.m. near the intersection of Howard and Custer streets, less than a block west of the Evanston Police Department’s Howard Street Outpost. A 15-year-old Chicago boy has been charged with attempted robbery after police said he approached an elderly woman in the 200 block of Ridge Avenue on Monday and demanded her car keys. Evanston police responded to a report of attempted robbery at 6:30 p.m. on Ridge Avenue, three blocks north of Howard Street. Police said that when they arrived on the scene, an 80-year-old Evanston woman told them that after parking her car and getting out of it, the teen approached her, demanded her car keys and blocked her path to prevent her from walking away. EPD Busts ‘Professional Pickpocket Crew’

The offenders allegedly made fake I.D.s to use stolen credit cards.

Evanston police busted a “professional pickpocket crew” Saturday that it said rapidly produced fake identification in order to use stolen credit cards, authorities said, resulting in felony theft charges against one man. Police said an investigation revealed that the “pickpocket crew” operated by stealing credit cards, quickly manufacturing fake I.D.s, and then using the cards and identification to make purchases at stores before the credit cards could be reported stolen. Mini-Mart Manager and Girlfriend Charged with Link Card Fraud

Police say the two submitted illegitimate transactions and were in possession of stolen electronics.

Evanston police charged the manager of the A.J. Mini-Mart and his girlfriend each with public aid wire fraud and three counts of possession of stolen property, officials said, after police executed a search warrant on the business Thursday. Police said Usama Bawazir, 27, and his girlfriend, Jennifer M. Mahmood, a 27-year-old employee of the mini-mart, submitted illegitimate Link card transactions in exchange for cash on several occasions. Sixteen stolen electronic items were also reported recovered during the investigation. Police said they had identified owners for several of the stolen goods and that three of the victims had filed charges. Police Investigate Link Card Fraud at Evanston Stores

Evanston Police executed a search warrant Thursday on two businesses at Church Street and Dodge Avenue.

Evanston police executed a search warrant on two west side businesses Thursday as part of an on-going investigation involving Link card fraud, officials said. Agents from the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Secret Service assisted Evanston police officers in investigating and searching A.J. Mini Mart, 1901 Church St., and A.J. Wireless, located at 1700 Dodge Ave. Both businesses are located near the northwest corner of the intersection of Church Street and Dodge Avenue. Police reported they recovered “records and numerous items of electronics from the search warrant locations,” and said that the stores may have been accepting stolen electronic devices in exchange for cash.
