Evanston Township High School junior Parker English took second in the 200-meter dash and third in the 400-meter dash at Saturday’s state track meet in Charleston.
Evanston’s Parker English took home four state medals from Saturday’s state track meet, including second place in the 200-meter dash and third place in the 400-meter dash. The junior from Evanston Township High School finished the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.48 seconds, behind Lincoln-Way East’s Aaliyah Brown. English took third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 55.48, behind Gurnee’s Brittny Ellis and Payton’s Cameron Pettigrew. English jumped 18 feet three inches in the long jump, good for sixth place, and also took sixth in the 4x100 meter relay along with fellow Wildkits Joppa Banks, Alexia Harvey and Grace Sarkor.

The Evanston Township High School boys varsity baseball team defeated Niles North 6-3 Thursday. Evanston is now 22-12 and plays its final regular season game on Saturday at 9:30am at Evanston Stadium.
The following information was submitted by coach Ross Freeland. Eli Otting was 3 for 4 and Brandon Vamarasi hit a homerun with 3 RBI as the visiting Wildkits won their 3rd consecutive game in a 6-3 win over Niles North. The Kits overcame a 2-1 deficit with 2 runs in the 4th and 2 more in the 5th. Vamarasi's solo home run in the sixth added an insurance run. Mackenzie O'Neil started on the mound and went 2 2/3 innings. Russell Snapp provided a solid 2 1/3 innings of relief to earn the win and closer James Hageman pitched the final 2 innings to earn his sixth save of the season. Evanston is now 22-12 and play its final regular season game on Saturday at 9:30am at Evanston Stadium.

Evanston police say the homicide of Blake Ross, who was shot nine times on the south side of Chicago May 12, could have ties to local gun violence.
Evanston police say the shooting death of Blake Ross, 20, a former Evanston Township High School student who was killed on the south side of Chicago, may be tied to ongoing, gang-related violence in Evanston. Ross, who lived in the 2300 block of Greenwood Street in Evanston, died of multiple gunshot wounds on May 12, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office. He was killed in the 2800 block of E. 76th Street in Chicago, near Rainbow Beach Park. Evanston Police Cmdr. Jason Parrott said Ross may have been an "intended target” in a May 7 shooting near the Fleetwood-Jourdain Community Center, 1655 Foster St. Police questioned four people after the shooting, including Ross, but he did not provide any information to police, …

The Wildkits defeated Loyola 3-0 Tuesday, when pitcher Hunter Bailey threw a complete game no-hitter in his first-ever varsity start.
The following article was submitted by Coach Ross Freeland. In his first ever varsity start, Hunter Bailey threw a complete game no-hitter to lead the Kits to a 3-0 victory over Loyola. Bailey walked 2 and hit two batters but kept Rambler batters off-balance all day striking out 4 including 2 in the last inning. The game was tied 0-0 into the bottom of the sixth inning. With one out in the inning, Brandon Vamarasi and Joe Franke drew walks. Julian GonzaleZ then singled to left loading the bases. The Evanston varsity baseball team got a much needed 11-4 victory over Highland Park Saturday afternoon to win its second straight game. Eli Otting keyed a 5 run fifth inning for the Kits with a home run to right center field. The Highland Park centerfielder actually had the catch but lost control of it as he ran into the centerfield fence. The ball popped out of his glove and went over the fence. Otting's homerun came immediately after Michael Pope ripped a double scoring Jack Blanchard. Pope was 2 for 4 with 3 RBI in the game and Blanchard was 2 for 3. School and city officials recently discussed creating a safe school zone around Evanston Township High School.
Evanston police could have more authority around Evanston Township High School if school and city officials move forward with a proposed safety ordinance that would allow police to step in before a situation escalates to violence, the Daily Northwestern reported. Under Illinois law, municipalities can create “safe school zones” near school areas, in which police can arrest individuals deemed a threat who refused to leave the zone after police request. The Wildkits won their second game against Waukegan on the road Thursday afternoon.
The following game summary was submitted by varsity baseball coach Ross Freeland: The Evanston Varsity Baseball team finished a two-game sweep of Waukegan by beating the Bulldogs on the road 7-3 on Thursday afternoon. Evanston scored twice in the 1st and three more times in the 3rd to jump out to a 5-0 lead and never looked back. Eli Otting had an RBI single in the 1st and Kevin Kleschen had a 2 RBI single in the 2nd. Joe Franke led the Kits offensively going 2 for 4 with two doubles. Miles Shatkin overcame shaky Evanston fielding with a solid outing on the mound. He pitched 6 innings giving up only 2 hits, walking 4 and striking out 4. Michael Pope came in and pitched the 7th for the Kits. Evanston is now 16-7 and 6-3 in the CSL. …

I am a lifelong neighbor of the Ross and Ferguson families. We each had stellar upbringing from parents who were well respected in the community.
