Evanston police say they’ve arrested an 18-year-old in connection with a cell phone theft in James Park. Two witnesses pursued the suspect after they saw him snatch the phone, according to police.
Evanston police have arrested an 18-year-old in connection with a cell phone theft in James Park that occurred on April 29, police say. Francisco Gonzales, 18, of the 1200 block of Harvard Ter., Evanston, was charged with a Class 4 Felony for theft from a person and was issued a May 10 court date in Skokie, according to police. On Monday evening, a 53-year-old man was using his cell phone in the 300 block of Dodge Avenue when someone approached him from behind and snatched the cell phone from his hand. Witnesses chased the man and police later located the robber in the 1800 block of Kirk Street, where police say the victim identified Gonzales as the person who stole his phone. Police have asked the public to help identify the males in the picture.
Evanston police are looking for help in identifying two males who they say may have robbed a woman of her cell phone on the South Boulevard CTA station platform Tuesday afternoon. According to a CTA security bulletin, the female was standing on the platform at around 2:30 p.m. when she was approached by two males, one wearing a red shirt and one a white shirt, who took her cell phone by force. A CTA security camera at the station captured a photo of these two males on the platform near the time of the robbery. A 24-year-old Chicago man was charged with felony robbery after police said he snatched cash and lottery tickets out of the hands of a 65-year-old woman on Tuesday. Police said Jason O. Pinnock, 24, admitted to robbing the woman because he needed money to pay his cell phone bill. A 15-year-old Chicago boy has been charged with attempted robbery after police said he approached an elderly woman in the 200 block of Ridge Avenue on Monday and demanded her car keys. Evanston police responded to a report of attempted robbery at 6:30 p.m. on Ridge Avenue, three blocks north of Howard Street. Police said that when they arrived on the scene, an 80-year-old Evanston woman told them that after parking her car and getting out of it, the teen approached her, demanded her car keys and blocked her path to prevent her from walking away.
