In honor of Father's Day, we asked Patch readers for the best advice they've gotten from their father or a father-figure. Here's what you had to say.
Happy Father's Day, Patch readers! To mark the day, we asked you earlier this week to share the best advice you received from your dads. From the practical to the profound, here are some of the responses. Thanks to everyone for sharing. J.Lyn wrote: My dad shared this wisdom with me...and I have used it time and time again in my life. "Don't listen to what people say...watch what they do...that is where you will find the truth". Dan Pritzker's dad had a more specific recommendation: Never to trust the police. If it's harmleas and simple go ahead but anything else shut up and ask for an attorney or get one. As did John Russillo's dad: Always double down on 11. Andrew Spatz shared this about his father, who passed away 20 years ago: Most of…

Dads tend to like dispensing wisdom. What's the best bit of advice your father shared?
Ideas that will make Dad smile on his special day

Dads tend to like dispensing wisdom. What's the best bit of advice your father shared?
Did your dad show you how to correctly throw a football or teach you to make a killer soufflé? (My dad actually does make the soufflés in our family.) Or did he give you great advice on your wedding day or after your first child was born? Share the best morsels you’ve collected from dad over the years in the comment section below. We’ll compile the answers into a story for Father’s Day on Sunday. And there’s no need to limit this to dads with a capital D. If there was a father figure who gave you great advice — a coach, teacher, step-dad, etc. — let us know.

If they're around, that is.
I’m not exactly sure how Father’s Day came to be, but it’s just around the corner. For a few theories on the holiday from Answerbag.com, click here. Just like anything, there’s no such thing as a “perfect father”... though I know several who tie for the damn-near-perfect award. We’ve all seen examples of the best and worst dads, plus everything in between. What makes a good dad to one person doesn’t always resonate with everyone. Being there, however, certainly does.
