How Can We Each Fight Gun Violence?

Some politicians have shared their ideas of how to curb gun violence. Now we invite you to jump into the discussion and share your thoughts in the comment section.

As Vice President Joe Biden prepares to meet with the National Rifle Association and other gun-ownership groups for talks at the White House Thursday, many politicians have voiced what they think should be done to curb gun violence.  Among those politicians are several North Shore village mayors and presidents who recently joined Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel to call for stronger gun regulation as part of Mayors Against Illegal Guns, a coalition aimed at cracking down on illegal guns. The coalition recently aired a commercial featuring Roxanna Green, the mother of one of those killed in the 2011 Tucson shootings, urging people to sign a petition on www.DemandAPlan.org.  Below is a look at how other state and local leaders are taking action in…

Evanstonian David Cohen Performs For The Nation

A mother's pride for her son ... and for music programs in Evanston.

I felt like a proud Evanston mother this week when my youngest son offered to shovel the snow off the front porch stairs; granted, he was looking to earn a buck to spend at Toys Et Cetera, but I admired his gumption – and his commitment to shop local. Rhonda Cohen is another proud Evanston mother; she just watched her youngest son, David, perform at the memorial service for victims of the Jan. 8 assassination attempt on U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords in Tucson, Arizona.  Cohen and her husband, Dick, sent their sons, Adam and David, to District 65 schools and to Evanston Township High School, where David participated in the band and orchestra programs.
