As Vice President Joe Biden prepares to meet with the National Rifle Association and other gun-ownership groups for talks at the White House Thursday, many politicians have voiced what they think should be done to curb gun violence. Among those politicians are several North Shore village mayors and presidents who recently joined Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel to call for stronger gun regulation as part of Mayors Against Illegal Guns, a coalition aimed at cracking down on illegal guns. I felt like a proud Evanston mother this week when my youngest son offered to shovel the snow off the front porch stairs; granted, he was looking to earn a buck to spend at Toys Et Cetera, but I admired his gumption – and his commitment to shop local. Rhonda Cohen is another proud Evanston mother; she just watched her youngest son, David, perform at the memorial service for victims of the Jan. 8 assassination attempt on U.S. Rep.
