Since last October 15 new businesses have opened in downtown Evanston, with more than half of them in the food industry. The new businesses employ a total of 112 full-time and 67 part-time workers, according to city data.

Hungry for something new? Evanston's restaurant scene has gotten a boost with the recent openings of a family-friendly all-day spot, a Korean restaurant and a Haitian bakery. Downtown, JT's Bar & Grill opened in October at 1639 Orrington Ave., a space that has been vacant for years since the closing of Omaggio. Owner Sherrie Vidinich lives in Chicago but is looking into moving to Evanston. “We love Evanston," she said. Found Kitchen and JT's Bar and Grill are opened this fall in Evanston, while Chicago's Home of Chicken and Waffles, Ward Eight cocktail bar and Sol Cafe are set to open soon.
