Galvin Foundation Makes $6 Million Gift to Northwestern

The Robert W. Galvin Foundation is honoring Mary B. Galvin, wife of former chairman and CEO of Motorola Inc., with a gift to Northwestern University.

Northwestern University’s Henry and Leigh Bienen School of Music recently received a $6 million gift from the Robert W. Galvin Foundation in honor of Mary B. Galvin, who graduated in 1945 with an undergraduate degree in communication.  The new Music and Communication Building under construction on the Evanston campus will be renamed the Mary B. Galvin Recital Hall in recognition of the gift.  Designed by architectural firm Goettsh Partners, the building located on the south end of campus will be Bienen School of Music’s new home.  “The recital hall will be the centerpiece of our new building,” said Toni-Marie Montgomery, dean of the Bienen School of Music in a statement. “Mrs. Galvin’s role as co-founder of the Stradivari Society, which …

Kellogg Business School Ranks Top Super Bowl Ads

Advertisers 'played it safe' this year, professor says.

If you're made of chocolate, it's okay to dance suggestively. If you're a scantily clad lady, not so much. That's at least partly the message in the ranking of best and worst Super Bowl ads by Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management. This is the eighth year the school's faculty and students have ranked the most anticipated ads of the year. "What's notable about this year versus others is that advertisers played it safe. As a result, we saw fewer standouts, but we also didn't see as many costly mistakes," Clinical Professor of Marketing Tim Calkins said in an article about the ranking on the school's website. The top Super Bowl ad had to be the Kia Sandman/Dream sequence. Nice, funny story line, with the product clearly identified and the "hero" of the story.   more ›
