Last Day of the South Branch

The Evanston Public Library's South Branch closed after being open for 94 years.

This is the end. The Evanston Public Library's South Branch opened its doors for one last time, before closing them for good. Seven hours open to the public after a 94 year run, 76 of which it spent at its current location, 926 Chicago Avenue. Though it has been well known for months that the South Branch would close at its current location, recently there was hope that the board would accept a donation from the Evanston Public Library Friends to help fund an interim outpost storefront nearby. But, last Wednesday, these hopes were dashed when the board voted down a motion to fund the new location, saying the money simply is not in the budget.
