Two hair stylists in Skokie talk about security precautions - such as keeping their doors locked at all times - after the hair salon bandit robbed three area salons in a two-week span.
Despite the store being open, walk up to Hair Cuttery in Village Crossing and expect the doors to be locked. It's a security precaution the employees have taken since the hair salon bandit has robbed three area salons - two in Skokie, one in Niles - in two weeks. "We started locking our doors on Monday," said Hair Cuttery stylist Dyana Kheyo, 22. "We're terrified. Our customers are terrified. They know what's been going on. It's been all over the news." A New Year’s Day baby boy - Samson Chambers was born to Chicago residents Donald and Sheryl Chambers at NorthShore University HealthSystem in Evanston, 2650 Ridge Ave., on Jan. 1, 2013, at 12:41 a.m. The boy came in at 8-pounds, 3-ounces and 20-inches. “I wanted [Samson] to be born on Christmas day and my husband wanted him to be born on New Year’s Day,” Sheryl Chambers said. “My husband got his wish.” This is the fifth child for the Chambers family. The mother said she now has three girls and two boys. “Honestly, for me, I think it’s a normal thing. It was a regular day for me,” Chambers said. “We gave him the name Samson [which is] from the bible. The name means ‘being strong.’” Chambers added that she had family at the hospital …

From the community ~ In preparation for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, Weinstein Funeral Home and Piser Funeral Services sponsored a Geniza ceremony at Memorial Park Cemetery in Skokie on Aug. 22. A Geniza is a Jewish ritual in which used books, clothing and other items are donated by members of the community and buried in a sacred place to benefit both the community and future generations. An estimated three tons of donated items were placed inside caskets and buried in plots donated by Memorial Park Cemetery. The children of Keshet participated in the ritual with the burial of the donated items. All items for the Geniza were collected by Weinstein Funeral Home.
