Evanston Coin Seller Found Guilty Of Buying Stolen Goods

A judge found the owner of North Shore Coins in Evanston to be guilty of buying what appeared to be stolen goods from undercover police pretending to be burglars, the Tribune reports.

The owner of North Shore Coins in Evanston was found guilty last week of “continuing a financial crimes enterprise” after he bought purportedly stolen goods from undercover police, according to the Chicago Tribune.  James Coello, 47, of Chicago, pled guilty to the charges and was sentenced to 36 months of probation and 100 hours of community service, the Tribune reports.  Coello was arrested and charged with multiple felony counts in September 2012, after he purchased thousands of dollars of stolen jewelry and other valuables from undercover officers during a sting operation that lasted six months, according to police. I'd hardly call 3 years probation and 100 hours community service as a slap on the wrist---not to mention article fails to mention all fines levied by the court...There's no point in sending him to prison---he's not a hardened criminal nor guilty of a violent crime---he's now a convicted felon, lost his business, and probably broke---that isn't enough for you?...Jim's a good guy who made some bad…   more ›
