The gold medalist posed for photos and signed posters at his dad's landscaping business in Wilmette.
Four-time Olympic gold medalist Matt Grevers made an appearance at his father’s business, Chalet Nursery, in Wilmette Wednesday afternoon to meet with fans, sign posters and pose for photos. Grevers, who grew up and began his swimming career in Lake Forest, took home two gold and one silver medal at the London 2012 Olympics. He did the same in Beijing in 2008. As the son of award-winning landscape designer Ed Grevers, Matt joined his dad to talk “best practices” in the garden and swimming pool after meeting with fans. Seun Adigun, who attended Orrington, Kingsley and Haven schools as well as Evanston Township High School, will compete in the 100-meter hurdles for Nigeria.
Nine years ago, Seun Adigun helped bring home a track and field state championship to Evanston Township High School. Today, the former Wildkit is getting ready to race the 100-meter hurdles in London as part of the 2012 Olympics. Adigun, 25, will compete for Nigeria, the country where her parents were born. But she said she considers Evanston—where she spent 11 years of her childhood—to be her “true home.” Born in Chicago, Adigun attended Kingsley Elementary School, Orrington Elementary School, Haven Middle School and Evanston Township High School, where she ran track and field her freshman and sophomore years and played on the freshman A, sophomore and varsity basketball teams. In the middle of her junior year at ETHS, Adigun …
NBC's broadcast of the Olympics has, at times, been preempted by technology.
NBC's Olympics broadcast was the most watched Olympics ever through its first three days, the Washington Post reported. The network has garnered some criticism for its decision to hold the broadcast of popular events until primetime, the newspaper reported. The tape delay decision has at times caused conflict between the media reporting results when they happen and those who want to wait for the Olympics broadcast to find out who won. Patch, for example, sent out a breaking news email alert when Lake Forest's Matt Grevers won gold in the 100-meter backstroke and set an Olympic record. Patch received complaints from some readers that the alert ruined the upcoming Olympics broadcast. The Patch sites in the north Chicago suburbs decided to …

Dwyer, along with his relay teammates, snatched the win at London's 2012 Summer Olympics.
Joan Sullivan dropped to her knees in prayer, her face practically enraptured, and at one point moved her arms in a swimmer’s motion. That’s the effect Conor Dwyer had on people Tuesday as he brought gold home to Winnetka, serving as the second, of four relay men in the U.S. swimming team’s resounding victory in the 800-meter freestyle event in the London Summer Olympics. Dwyer handed off at least a four-length lead to his next man after he swam the four pool lengths, more than holding his own with superstar teammates Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte, as the U.S. finished at 6:59.70. France was runner-up. “This is God’s blessing,” Sullivan said as she clutched a white figurine given to her in 2003 by Dodie Dwyer, Conor’s paternal grandmother…
Keep up with Dwyer's Olympic experience in London in his latest competition.
Winnetka native Conor Dwyer will be competing for the gold for the second time in four days after the U.S. team swam the fastest time in the 800-meter freestyle relay heats in London Tuesday. Dwyer and teammates swam in 7:6.75, 3.75 seconds faster than runner-up Austrailia in their heat. It's not guaranteed Dwyer will swim in the final four-men freestyle relay, but if the team were to win, Dwyer would receive a medal. The medal event is scheduled for 2:51 p.m. Chicago time. Dwyer's friends and family will be gathering around 2 p.m. at Stormy's, 1735 Orchard Ln. in Northfield, to watch the event. NBC's website will feature a live stream of the event. Dwyer, a Loyola Academy alum, placed fifth in the 400-meter freestyle in 3:46.39, just shy…
