Police Track Stolen Phone, Arrest Suspected Robber

Evanston Police charged a Chicago man with robbery after they tracked down a phone he allegedly stole and attempted to resell at a store on the north side, according to police.

Detectives tracked down a stolen phone at a north side Chicago store, identified the person who sold it to the store and charged him with a robbery that took place in Evanston in April, according to police. Mitchell J. Ratliff, 22, of the 1600 block of West Jonquil Terr. in Chicago, was charged with one count of robbery and one count of theft, both felonies, police said.  Police believe Ratliff grabbed a Samsung Galaxy 3 from a 24-year-old Northwestern University graduate student on April 20 near the intersection of Foster Street and Sheridan Road, then started running away. Police Arrest Suspected Pizza Hut Robber

A man placed a handwritten note on the counter at Pizza Hut, 951 Howard St., saying “Give me the money or you are going to die,” police said.

Evanston police arrested a Chicago man suspected of handing a Pizza Hut employee a note reading “Give me the money or you are going to die,” during a robbery Wednesday, March 27.   A man entered the Pizza Hut at 951 Howard St. in Evanston around 8 p.m., and asked to wash the windows for money, according to police. He left without incident when a store employee told him declined the offer, police said. The man returned about an hour later and placed a handwritten note on the counter that said, “give me the money or you are going to die,” according to police. He did not display a weapon or imply that he had one, according to police.  A store clerk handed $62 in cash from the register to the man, who took the money and the note and left the …

UPDATE: Great Clips in Chicago Robbed at Gunpoint

A Great Clips in Chicago was robbed Monday around 10:10 a.m. This comes after several hair salons in Skokie and Niles were robbed.

Updated 11:43 p.m. - A Great Clips in Chicago was robbed at gunpoint on Monday, police said. The robber entered the salon at 1235 N. Clybourn at 10:10 a.m., pointed a black handgun at the stylists and demanded she put money in his backpack. The offender then fled the scene westbound, an officer at Chicago News Affairs said. The man was wearing a red puffy coat, red jacket and a skullcap, police said. Police believe this individual is the same person that robbed two hair salons in Lincoln Park in December. The Great Clips robbery is also similar to those of recent weeks in surrounding suburbs such as Skokie and Niles. It is unclear if the Jan. 21st robber is the same individual responsible for those that occurred in the suburban area, …

Chicago Man Charged in Robbery Of 80-Year-Old Woman

A 19-year-old Chicago man was charged Friday in connection with the robbery of an 80-year-old woman in downtown Evanston in broad daylight on Tuesday, Jan. 15.

A 19-year-old Chicago man was charged Friday with robbing an 80-year-old Evanston woman in broad daylight downtown, according to police.  Nelson Thomas, of the 5400 block of South Aberdeen Avenue, was charged with robbery, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, and aggravated fleeing and eluding police, all felonies. He was also charged with one misdemeanor count of driving on a suspended license, police said.  Police say a man between the ages of 18 and 22 forcibly took an 80-year-old woman’s purse around 11:15 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, at Custer Avenue and Main Street, as she was walking back from the Charter One Bank downtown. Stylists 'Terrified' of Hair Salon Bandit

Two hair stylists in Skokie talk about security precautions - such as keeping their doors locked at all times - after the hair salon bandit robbed three area salons in a two-week span.

Despite the store being open, walk up to Hair Cuttery in Village Crossing and expect the doors to be locked. It's a security precaution the employees have taken since the hair salon bandit has robbed three area salons - two in Skokie, one in Niles - in two weeks. "We started locking our doors on Monday," said Hair Cuttery stylist Dyana Kheyo, 22. "We're terrified. Our customers are terrified. They know what's been going on. It's been all over the news." Police Investigate Robbery of 80-Year-Old Woman

A man grabbed a purse from an 80-year-old woman as she was leaving Charter One Bank at Main Street and Chicago Avenue Tuesday morning, according to police.

An 80-year-old Evanston woman was robbed at Main Street and Custer Avenue as she walked back from a local bank around 11:15 a.m. Tuesday, according to police.  The woman had just left the Charter One Bank downtown, at 525 Main St., when a man forcibly took her purse from her, police said. He ran away with two other people into the north alley of Main Street, and then drove off in a vehicle. The woman was not injured during the incident, according to police.  Police said the man was wearing a hooded sweatshirt and was between the ages of 18 and 22.
