What would Amy Chua say?

The Girl Scouts of Evanston wrap up their cookie sales this week (WHAT?  You missed it?).  I sent an email reminder to the parents and caregivers of the troop I co-lead, reminding them not only to send their girls to school with their cookie order forms but, more importantly, stressing that it’s NOT a competition about who sells the most cookies.  “We’re all raising money for one troop,” my email said. According to their friends, Amy Chua's children are extremely well adjusted young women and caring peers. Her style of parenting would not be right for my family, as I am a bit too lazy. However, it does seem to work for her and her clan. I also suspect that she has exaggerated her rigidity somewhat in order to create the level of controversy that sells books.
