Police Issue 20 Cell Phone Citations, Arrest 2 For DUI During Thanksgiving Crackdown
Along with other local law enforcement agencies throughout Illinois, Evanston Police cracked down on motor vehicle violations from Nov. 12 to 25.
During a Thanksgiving crackdown on unsafe drivers, Evanston police charged two people with driving under the influence and cited 20 people for talking on a cell phone while driving, among other charges. From Nov. 12 through 25, police partnered with the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) for an enforcement initiative targeting impaired drivers or motorists without seatbelts, according to a press release from the Evanston Police Department. The initiative is part of IDOT's "Click It Or Ticket" and "Drive Sober Or Get Pulled Over" campaigns. During the two-week period, police also issued 18 citations to drivers who were not wearing seatbelts and one citation to a driver who did not have a child safety seat properly installed, …

People are reaching the point where they need to be surgically separated from their cell phones. I saw a young mother talking on her cell phone while crossing the street with her baby in a stroller.
