When Is Trader Joe's Opening in Evanston? We've Got a Date.

Mark your calendar for the opening of Trader Joe's at 1211 Chicago Ave. Other food-related news: 50-cent cones at Andy's and a new Jamaican restaurant.

Trader Joe's Gets an Opening Date
Trader Joe's is officially opening its doors on Friday, Sept. 6, 2013, at 1211 Chicago Ave. in Evanston, according to developer Scott Gendell. Job-seekers were lined up out the door and around the building on Tuesday, when the grocery store first began accepting applications. The 13,000-square-foot store sits adjacent to an 81-space parking lot.

Get 50-Cent Cones at Andy’s Thursday

Andy’s Frozen Custard will be celebrating National Frozen Custard Day on Thursday, Aug. 8, when fans can buy frozen custard cones for 50 cents at Andy’s, 719 Church St. in Evanston. Andy’s says, and we quote: “The half-buck cones will be offered from dawn until dusk with no limit on the chocolate or vanilla frozen confections.”

Jamaican Restaurant Hosts Grand Opening

Pepperpot, a Jamaican restaurant, is holding a grand opening Thursday, Aug. 8, at 1623 Simpson St. The restaurant opened five months ago, according to owner Joan Bariffe.

Specialties include jerk chicken, curry chicken, oxtail, curry goat, beef pies and catfish, among other items. Pepperpot is currently running a lunch special of jerk wings, plaintains, rice and beans for $5, according to Bariffe.

Starting next week, the restaurant will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
