Big Twist Offers Healthy Fast Food

The owners of a new restaurant on Howard Street say they hope to offer food that is both affordable healthy and delicious.

Aljo Jose and Meril Philip opened Big twist, 1806 Howard St., this April. Both are doctors who met in medical school in Prague, then moved to the U.S.

"All the fast food here is really fattening," Philip said. "We deal with a lot of kids who are obese."

She said Big Twist makes its burgers, rice bowls and shawarma with less processing, salt and sugar than a typical fast food restaurant.

Jose and Philip say they also started an Indian food catering business, and plan to open a second Big Twist in Chicago.
