City Council Approves Goldfish Swim School on Dempster

The chain of swim schools, with a location in Chicago, goes before a city committee next week.

The Evanston City Council Monday unanimously approved the application from Goldfish Swim School to start construction at the Dempster Street location.

Goldfish Swim School is hoping to open a location at 2008 Dempster St. and will go before the Evanston Site Plan and Appearance Review Committee next week with a proposal.

Goldfish opened its first pool in 2006 in Birmingham, MI, according to its website. It was founded by husband and wife team Jenny and Chris McCuiston, and now has 16 locations, primarily in the Midwest.

There’s a Goldfish Swim School on Chicago’s Roscoe Village neighborhood. Lessons start for kids at 4 months old.

On Wednesday the committee will review an application from Goldfish for a special use permit for a commercial indoor recreation facility in what is zoned as an industrial area, and will pass on its recommendation to the Zoning Board of Appeals.
