Temperance Beer Co. will begin serving beer this week in its new tap room at 2000 Dempster St.

The tap room at Evanston's first brewery, Temperance Beer Co., opens this Friday, Dec. 20.

Customers can sample any of the brewery's six beers on tap in pints, half flights and tasting flights, while enjoying eats from the food truck Hummingbird Kitchen. The tasting room is located adjacent the brewery at 2000 Dempster St.

Temperance Beer Co. founder and Evanston native Josh Gilbert debuted the brewery's first four beers this September. Gilbert, who is an architect, also designed the 2,000-square-foot tap room, according to a press release. He plans to add a beer garden next spring.

“The Tap Room has been part of the plan for Temperance since the earliest imaginings, and I’m thrilled that we are now able to welcome people into our brewery to share some great times together,” he said in the release.

Beers on tap from head brewer Claudia Jendron, who previously worked for Goose Island Beer Co., include a wheat ale made with blueberries, an extra special bitter, rye pale ale, porter, English IPA and sour beer made with cherries.

Hours on opening night are 7:30 to 11 p.m.
